Steamboat Springs School District Appoints Derek Fettig as Director of Finance and Operations

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Steamboat Springs School District has selected Derek Fettig as its new Director of Finance and Operations. Fettig brings more than ten years of financial leadership and operational management to the role, combined with a strong personal commitment to the Steamboat Springs community. Derek will officially step into his new role on Monday, August 17. 

Fettig comes to the district after serving as the Director of Finance & Operations for Firewater Firm / Mile High Brand Builders since 2015. In that role, he directed full-scope financial planning, multi-year forecasting, GAAP-compliant reporting, cash and debt management, and team supervision across multi-entity operations. His broader professional background includes financial modeling, project management, and analysis roles at firms in Denver, New York, and Delaware. Fettig holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance with a minor in Marketing from the Alfred Lerner College of Business at the University of Delaware.

As a longtime local resident and parent who is deeply invested in our community, his vision aligns perfectly with our goal of maintaining strong fiscal health to support our educators and students."

In his new capacity, Fettig will oversee district budget development, financial reporting, cash and debt management, internal controls, and operational infrastructure. Beyond his professional experience, Fettig is active in the local community as an Alpine and Freeski Coach for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and is raising his family in Steamboat Springs. Fettig moved to Steamboat Springs with his family in 2022.
